Saalschutz (CH) Zürich

The Zurich rave punk duo Saalschutz have been upsetting the balance since 2001, be it in your head, in your stomach or in your legs, you always find yourself asking: “What the hell are they doing and what the hell do they even want to do?!“ The band ignore the questions and let their music do the talking. They write lyrics that subvert the norm again and again and music that party crowds get hooked on and apply peculiar dance moves to. Because lyrics seem to be of no interest to anybody these days, Saalschutz take extreme care and dedicate a lot of time to writing theirs. The lyrics aren’t easy to understand, they are most definitely opiniated and perhaps even eccentric enough to be considered as hailing from another world. But those who try to and those who have interpreted the lyrics can never be completely certain that they have got it right but they are probably happy with what they’ve got. But wait, there is always two sides to every coin and there’s another side of Saalschutz that is less complex; the beats and melodies that provide the counterpoint for the proverbial millions. There’s no way past the hooklines as these songs are quite simply earworms that are on an unstoppable course into your heart and soul. Pure, beautiful, true, good, naked.

In other words, so fresh, so deep and so danceable that probably nobody has combined bulkyness with catchiness, being sober with being stoned and standoffishness with hugging the way Saalschutz have amalgamted things that usually stand poles apart into the marital bed that is their music. Since the beginning of pop cultures‘ existence, people have partied until the cows come home and have looked forward to the journey into lands that seem far far away but that are actually oh so close; in a place that lies nowhere between Trance, Tribal-Breakbeat-City and Electro-Funky House.
Since forming, Saalschutz have played hundreds of concerts in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Holland, Czech Republic and Serbia as well as in an elevator that takes you up to a canteen on a roof in Zurich. The band were also played repeatedly by John Peel on his legendary BBC 1 radio show. In addition Flumroc and M T Dancefloor appeared as comic strip characters in Ehapa-Band “Popcomics,“ had a supporting role in the Berlin Riot-Girls‘ puppet theatre and have worked as remixers, guest singers and producers for a diverse range of acts.

The band’s third album ‘Entweder Saalschutz‘ will be released in Autumn 2010 and will be followed by a long tour predominantly through Germany and Switzerland.

Some releases and remixes are available through: , Audiolith, Desert Engine, Fear Section, Holzpop, L‘Age D‘Or, Megapeng, Rewika, Sony Music, Tochnit Aleph, Zick Zack, Zyx amongst others.
